Fraps
This week we tried out a video capture program called Fraps. Here's another little tour of my apartment for your viewing pleasure.
Story
WIKI - Arrives back at his apartment after work and closes the door behind him. He walks to the fridge, drinks his usual after-work beer and then heads to the lounge to watch TV. Time passes and it gets late so he goes to bed.
WIKI - In the morning, he starts his usual morning routine. He sits up, yawns, and stumbles to the wardrobe to get dressed. Then he goes to the bathroom, where he talks to himself in the mirror about where his life is headed.
WIKI - "What are you doing Wiki? Your life is going down the drain. Go out there and make something of yourself"
WIKI - At the moment, he realises the only place he’s headed is to work again. And with that realisation he heads out the door.
WIKI - After work, he arrives back at his apartment and closes the door behind him. He walks to the fridge and reaches for his after-work beer but it’s not there. Confused by this he walks to the couch, where TV will surely comfort him. He looks for the remote but it’s also disappeared. Confused even more, he searches the back of the couch but still finds nothing. At this point he suddenly realises that sitting next to him is a strange looking man with a very familiar face. In his left hand sits the remote. In the other is an even more familiar looking beer.
WIKI - “Um, who are you?”
STRANGER - “Huh?”
WIKI - “Who are you?”
STRANGER - “Oh me? I’m you”
WIKI - “You’re who?”
STRANGER - “I’m you... from the future”
WIKI - “The future?”
STRANGER - “...You catch on quick”
*awkward silence*
WIKI - Stands up and says, “I’m going to go ahead and assume this is a dream and leave you to it. Goodnight Sir...”
WIKI - wanders off to his room and goes to sleep. In the morning, he sits up, yawns, shakes his head at the dream just passed and then continues about his morning ritual. When he enters the bathroom, the strange man is standing there at the mirror looking at himself in a way that seems all too familiar.
WIKI - “Ok what are you doing here?”
STRANGER - “Ever read Charles Dickens? I’m the ghost of your future, dude. I’ve come to show you how your life is heading down the wrong road... I am what you will become if you don’t change your ways.”
*another awkward silence as Wiki looks his future self over*
WIKI - “Ok, ok. What do I do?”
STRANGER - “How about you grab me some breakfast and head off to work, everything will become clear soon.”
WIKI - Deeply puzzled by the sudden reality of his dream, Wiki fries some bacon and goes to work in a dazed silence.
This new cycle continues for months with Wiki striving ever harder to change his ways, until one day things take a sudden change.
WIKI - On returning from work he walks into the house and instinctively goes to the fridge. As he is about to open the door he hears a massive thud come from the lounge. He cautiously walks over to the couch only to discover that his future self has fallen onto the floor in a drunken heap. Surrounded by cans, Wiki sits beside him and wakes him up.
WIKI - “What is this mess?! What have you been doing here?”
STRANGER - “What does it look like? This is where you’re headed dude... Wanna drink?”
WIKI - “No I don’t want a drink! We need to get you to a hospital. There must be at least 30 cans here.”
STRANGER - “Urr I’m fine dude, seriously... Relax”
WIKI - shakes head and talks to himself as he leads his future self to the door “This can’t be me. I would never get this bad. I CAN’T let it get this bad.”
As Wiki pushes the man from the future along there is a shout from a neighbouring yard.
NEIGHBOUR - “Hey Roger Dodger, is that you! Where you been mate?”
WIKI - “No you must be mistaken, my name is Wiki...”
NEIGHBOUR - “Not you, you idiot... Rodge! Get back here. It’s fish and chip night.”
WIKI - His eyes fill with rage as he realises that the ‘future self’ he’s been catering for is his next door neighbour, Roger. He turns to release his fury but Roger’s drunken state disappears completely when his real name is called and in a flash is over to the safety of his yard.
WIKI - Stunned completely by the situation, walks back into the house and walks past both the fridge and the couch and goes straight to bed.
The moral of this story: Love thy neighbour... or at least remember his name.

Comic Life
Today we tried out ComicLife, the program we'll use to create our storyboards for the machinima project. I started off by dragging in a bunch of speech bubbles and took snapshots in Second Life to fit into the comic panels. The snapshots I took weren't that great but I'll do some more next week and include my actual story.

Second Life - Places Reviews
GoldenHorn Live Music & Mall
The first place I looked came up when i searched 'live music'. The actual building and area looked really good and the objects for the stage and dancefloor were very detailed. The bad thing about it was that nobody was there or playing so I must have been there at the wrong time or it's just not very popular. I'd go back if somebody was playing but while there's no music it's just a nice place to look at.
OD Designs - FREE GUITAR Largest Music Store
I searched up guitars and came across this guitar shop. It had a huge selection of pretty much every guitar texture you could think of. Because of that it took ages to load so you would have to wait a while before looking around. It wasn't a very nice shop to look at either other than the pictures of objects on walls. I'd go back eventually but i think i'd probably only buy one or two so there's probably not much need to go back heaps.
Prankster Isle
I was invited to this place by somebody and found it actually had some live music. There was a guy playing an Oasis cover via a streaming music feed and was pretty sweet because he would talk to people who were dancing. The downside was he wasn't a very good singer but there must be heaps more people like that. I'd visit again just for the conversations he was having with people.
